Week 6, Term 3 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
The last couple of weeks have been full of action! We have celebrated and participated in a number of significant events, all whilst continuing our strong focus on learning.
Book Week
Thank you to our families for supporting our Book Week parade. It was fabulous to see students dressed up as a wide variety of characters and books. The creativity and colour was fantastic. After our parade in the morning, students then participated in a range of activities focused on the shortlisted books for the year. Thank you to Mrs Anderson for all her organisation. It was a fun filled day focused on spreading the message that ‘Reading is magic’.
School Survey
The Tell Them From Me Survey has now closed. I would like to thank each and every student, staff and family that participated in the survey. Your contribution to this survey assists in the success and growth of our school community. Our families answered the call and in the end we achieved a strong response rate. Thank you; our school community is amazing!
Band Performance
What an entertaining performance we witnessed yesterday when St Patrick’s School Band (Launceston) visited and wowed us with their musical brilliance. We were introduced to a range of instruments, visited by ‘movie characters’ and then we all joined in for a dance party. Our whole school was on their feet dancing and everyone had a great time.
Zone Track and Field Carnival
Last Thursday Mrs Webb, Mrs Jenkins and Mr Drake accompanied a group of around 25 students to the South West Region Zone Track and Field Championships. These students represented our school in all disciplines on the track and in the field. We are very proud of their efforts and eagerly await information regarding ACT Championship qualifications.
Snow Sports Update
Congratulations to our superstars Claire B, Charlie B and Millie R who recently participated in the ACT School Cup. Claire and Charlie competed in skiing events whilst Millie was snowboarding. Both Charlie and Millie placed 2nd in their event and Millie qualified for Nationals. Well done! We are very proud. Watch out for our next newsletter for further information and photos about these special achievements.
First Holy Communion
As a faith community, we offer our congratulations to the students that celebrated their First Holy Communion last Sunday. It was a beautiful parish celebration, lead by Fr Chris Eaton and the students. A special thank you to Ms Natalie Zarb for her organisation and preparation of the students and to Fr Chris and the MGL sisters for their involvement in this process.
Carpark Safety
Our children’s safety is of utmost importance! The Parish Carpark is extremely busy, with cars constantly coming and going, and this poses a significant risk to our students if they are not directly accompanied by an adult whilst moving in this area. Recently we have seen an increasing number of adults, expecting their child/ren to walk to/from their car unaccompanied. Please do not ask your child/ren to do this as it places them in danger. We will NOT be allowing any student out of the school gate if they are not directly accompanied by their parent/carer.

Father’s Day Events
Donuts for Dads - Thursday
We warmly invite all our dads, grandfathers, and family members to our Fathers' Day ‘Donuts for Dads’ tomorrow, starting at 8:00 am in the school hall. Enjoy delicious donuts with a coffee van on site to kickstart your morning! We can’t wait to see you there.
At 10am, our Year 1/2 students will lead us in our Father’s Day mass in the St Benedict’s Church.
These events are special moments when we, as a whole school community, come together to give thanks and celebrate the special men in our lives. We hope you enjoy Thursday morning and have a fabulous day on Sunday.
Thank you to all the families that have donated a gift for the Father’s Day Stall which will be held on Friday. Thank you also to the parents that have volunteered their time to help out with the stall. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated!
Students are asked to bring in $5 on Friday to purchase one gift from the Father’s Day Stall.
School Uniform
A reminder that Summer Uniform commences in Term 4, so please check the wardrobe, and visit the Clothing Pool or Lowes if any items are needed. We will have the usual transition period early in Term 4 to cater for the unpredictable weather. A reminder that black leather school shoes are an essential item of uniform. Even though Year 6 students have only one term left at school, they still need to wear black school shoes in Term 4 and they will also wear them in high school. A reminder also, that nail polish is not to be worn, hair that is shoulder length or longer needs to be tied back and earrings are to be either a small ball stud or sleeper. Thank you for your support in encouraging student pride in our presentation and uniform.
Students Leaving St Benedict’s
If you anticipate that your child will leave St Benedict’s at the end of this year, could you please notify the Front Office. We need to begin planning for staffing and class configurations for 2025. Thank you to those who have let us know already. Of course this does not apply tp Year 6 styudents who will be moving to high school.
From the Assistant Principal
ICAS
This week students who have enrolled in ICAS will complete the final ICAS assessment - Mathematics. Our students have participated in over 40 assessments and we look forward to presenting their certificates when they arrive from ICAS. Congratulations to all participants for their enthusiasm in challenging themselves to be the best they can be and embracing this academic challenge.
RUNT Movie Event
Over the next few weeks all classes are exploring the amazing children's novel Runt, by Australian author Craig Silvey. The novel explores themes of heroes and villians, drought, relationships, hidden meanings, overcoming obstacles and resilience (just to name a few)! To celebrate this great example of Australian literature, our school is lucky enough to have a private screening of the movie at Hoyts Woden on Monday 16 September at 5:30pm. There will be a couple of surprises at the screening and some lucky door prizes.

Sacrament of First Holy Communion
Congratulations to our students who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Sunday. We hope that you continue to deepen your friendship with Jesus each time you receive the Blessed Sacrament. May you feel the love and peace of Jesus Christ in your hearts.
Father's Day Blessings
This Sunday we remember and pray for all fathers and those who love and care for children like fathers do. We praise and thank our God for these special men whose nurturing, protective love shows us a glimpse of the great love God has for us all. We also remember in a special way the fathers who are no longer with us; those are now at rest and with God.
Heavenly Father,
You entrusted your son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father.
Bless all fathers and father figures as they care for their families.
Give them strength and wisdom,
tenderness and patience,
support them in the work they have to do,
protecting those who look to them,
as we look to You for love and salvation,
through Jesus Christ our rock and defender, in union with the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.
Saint Joseph, pray for them.
Amen
